What is Naleo?
Naleo stands for the National Association of Licensing and Enforcement
Officers.
It all started in 1985 when 22 council licensing and enforcement
officers from all over the country, unhappy with the isolation of
local authorities licensing activities, got together at Solihull
Council and formed the Association to promote better understanding
of taxi and private hire matters, to swap information and to raise
the profile of licensing matters in general.
This small 'band' did not realise then that from these beginnings
the Association would grow to around 450 individual members, seven
regional groups, annual residential training courses plus additional
ad hoc courses, 'The Book' and a twice yearly magazine called the
"Bulletin".
We have close contacts with government departments, ministers,
other trade organisations and are in a position to greatly influence
licensing matters in Britain.
We regularly meet Ministers of State and Government officials
to discuss current and future plans and to lobby for changes in
the archaic law within which we have to work.
