What does NALEO do?
NALEO’s greatest strength is its Members.
They come from all over England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
and through the Association make contacts and friends exchanging
ideas, problems and solutions.
Through NALEO, a support network has been created second to
none. Any problem, legislative interpretation, latest case law,
or procedural matter can be quickly distributed throughout the country.
The Association has a National Committee elected annually consisting
of a Chair, Vice Chair, Honorary Secretary, Assistant Secretary,
Honorary Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, the seven Regional Chairs and any co-opted from time to time by the Committee. The Association also has
an Honorary Solicitor appointed by the Committee.
Besides the six executive posts, the Committee appoint an Editor
(of the Bulletin), a representative to sit on DPTAC (a government
statutory body dealing with transport disability issues) and a
Sub Committee - the Training
Sub Committee.
There are Seven Regions in England and Wales…
- Anglia
- Midlands
- North East
- North West
- South East
- South West
- Wales
Each region is run by a committee of four - the Chair, the Vice
Chair, the Hon. Secretary and one other. Each committee holds local
meetings/seminars usually at least twice a year, inviting guest
speakers on topical subjects.
Nationally NALEO holds two General Meetings per year,
one of which is the AGM where the annual elections to the Committee
take place. General subjects are discussed with topical subjects
taking first place. There is always a keynote speaker of national
prominence, with a representative of the Department of Transport
the Environment and the Regions keeping us up to date on the state
of legislation and policy. These national meetings are well attended,
usually attracting around a quarter of the membership.
NALEO takes training very seriously and holds annual residential
training courses and other ad hoc courses…
In January each year a three day residential course is held on
Hackney and Private Hire law, procedure and practice. This course
is sub divided into 5 different levels which run parallel and
covers the whole spectrum of Hackney and Private Hire Licensing.
Members come back year after year to ensure they complete all
the levels.
Not only that, but there are opportunities for members to gain
NVQ style and Diploma qualifications.
NALEO publishes twice yearly, the "Bulletin" , a
magazine which educates, entertains and informs the membership as
to what is going on in the licensing world.
The Associated also produces "The Book" , the bible
of licensing and enforcement officers, containing law procedure
and practice covering the whole area of Hackney and Private Hire
licensing.
